Know Who’s Really Behind Every Wallet, Project and Counterparty

Screen users, projects and partners for sanctions, adverse media and ownership risk. Then keep checking them every day.
How crypto firms can get better at compliance and monitoring

Crypto moves fast, and the risk moves with it. Most firms screen a user or partner once at onboarding and hardly look again. In an industry built on pseudonyms and speed, that’s exactly where trouble builds up. A better habit is to keep checking. Look at the people and companies behind every user, token project and counterparty before you deal with them, and keep an eye on them afterwards. That’s what Beady does. We screen properly at onboarding and then check everyone on your platform daily. If a sanction, scandal or fraud signal turns up, you hear about it that day. With Dubai and Abu Dhabi now among the busiest crypto hubs anywhere, and VARA, the FSRA and the DFSA all watching closely, that matters.

How crypto firms strengthen compliance: users screened at onboarding, counterparties and projects verified, re-checked every day, evidence kept for the regulator
Why manual screening can't keep up with crypto

Manual checks were never built for crypto’s speed or volume. When you’re onboarding thousands of users, listing new tokens and adding counterparties from all over the world, a person working through lists just falls behind, and quick checks miss the sanctions, fraud and integrity issues that matter most. Ownership is especially tricky. The people behind a token project, protocol or offshore company are often buried under layers a quick search won’t untangle. And a check at onboarding only shows one moment. Someone clean at sign-up can be sanctioned, charged or exposed months later, and a one-off check won’t tell you.

Manual screening vs Beady for crypto: hours per user and a backlog that never clears versus seconds, the right person resolved and re-checked every day
Why you need checks at onboarding and afterwards

At onboarding, you want to know that the person or company behind a user, project or counterparty is who they say they are, and that nothing in their past should stop you. Later, the question is what’s changed. A new sanction? A fine against an exchange? A founder facing charges? A project exposed as a scam? Check only at sign-up and you’re exposed for the rest of the relationship. Leave it all to later monitoring and you may have let a problem in on day one. Beady does both: a proper check at the start and daily monitoring after.

Screening and ongoing monitoring in crypto: an institutional client cleared at onboarding, then an owner sanctioned and an enforcement action missed until the bank asks
What one bad actor costs a crypto business

One sanctioned or fraudulent party can cost you far more than a single account. Take on the wrong user or counterparty and you could break sanctions rules without realising, something regulators have hit crypto firms with record fines for. Funds can be frozen. Banks can close your accounts and cut off your fiat rails. A compliance failure can cost you your VARA, FSRA or DFSA licence, or keep you out of a market completely. And in an industry that runs on trust, the reputational damage is serious. Most of this can be avoided with proper screening. Beady checks every user, project and partner against sanctions and adverse media before you’re exposed, and keeps watching afterwards.

What one bad actor costs a crypto business: sanctions breach, banking relationship pulled, licence under review, funds frozen, named alongside the actor
What the Tornado Cash case taught everyone

No case has shaped crypto compliance more than Tornado Cash. In August 2022, OFAC put the mixer on its sanctions list. It was the first time it had sanctioned an on-chain protocol rather than a person or a company. OFAC said the mixer had laundered billions of dollars, including funds stolen by North Korea’s Lazarus Group. The move was fiercely challenged, and after a 2024 US federal appeals court ruled that OFAC had gone too far by sanctioning immutable smart contracts, Treasury delisted the protocol in March 2025.

But the story didn’t end there, and this is the part compliance teams remember. OFAC kept one of the co-founders on its list, the criminal cases against the developers carried on, and OFAC had sanctioned other mixers before Tornado Cash and has gone after more since. Regulators closer to home are just as wary of anonymity tools. VARA’s rules, for example, prohibit activities involving anonymity-enhanced cryptocurrencies. The lesson is that regulators go after mixers and protocols, and above all the people and companies behind them, and the legal line keeps moving. You can’t run a background check on a smart contract. You can check the founders, operators and counterparties around it, and that’s what Beady does.

The Tornado Cash precedent: the mixer protocol delisted in 2025, while a co-founder stays on the sanctions list, developers are prosecuted and other mixers are sanctioned
How AI helps with crypto compliance

AI lets a crypto business screen at its own pace without skipping steps. Beady checks the people and companies behind a user, project or counterparty against sanctions, adverse media, litigation and more than 100,000 other sources in minutes, and maps ownership across more than 200M entities and officers. Up to 95% of the noise is filtered out before your team sees anything. After that, it checks daily and tells you within hours about a new sanction, charge or scandal. Every finding links to its source, which is exactly what regulators and banking partners want to see.

Crypto compliance with AI: 100,000+ sources, 200M+ entities, 95% noise removed, the right person not a namesake, new designations flagged the same day
01 Screening Users and Counterparties at Speed
Onboarding users and counterparties at crypto speed without letting a sanctioned or high-risk party through is a constant balancing act. Beady checks the people and companies behind every account against sanctions, PEP and adverse media in minutes. You stay fast, and you don’t cut corners.
02 Seeing Who’s Behind Projects and Partners
It’s hard to tell who’s really behind a token, protocol or partner when the team is pseudonymous or offshore. Beady screens the founders and companies behind the projects you list, integrate or partner with. Better to know who you’re getting involved with before you commit.
03 Mapping Opaque Ownership and Connections
In crypto, ownership is often hidden on purpose, behind holding companies and nominees. Beady maps ownership across more than 200 million entities and officers and brings out the beneficial owners and hidden links behind a company or project. An opaque structure doesn’t get to hide a risk you need to see.
04 Catching Fraud, Scams and Integrity Red Flags
Crypto attracts fraud, and it usually shows up in public before it reaches you. Beady checks users, projects and partners for arrests, scams and bad press, so an integrity problem turns up in screening, not after your users have lost money.
05 Keeping Up With Sanctions and PEP Exposure
Sanctions lists change all the time, and crypto is a favourite target for enforcement. Beady screens everyone against the UAE Local Terrorist List, the UN, OFAC, the EU and UK HMT, plus PEP data, all refreshed daily. A newly listed party is caught the day they appear, not months later.
06 Monitoring Continuously, Not Just at Onboarding
Someone who was clean at onboarding can become a risk overnight. Beady checks everyone on your platform daily and tells you within hours about a new sanction, charge or scandal. That gives you time to freeze, offboard or escalate.
07 Protecting Banking, Fiat Rails and Licences
Your bank accounts, fiat rails and licences all depend on a clean compliance record. In the UAE, banks are still careful about crypto clients, so that record counts for even more. Beady helps protect it by screening and monitoring the people and companies you deal with, so one sanctioned or fraudulent party doesn’t cost you the relationships your business relies on.
08 Meeting AML, KYC and KYB Obligations
Crypto has some of the strictest and fastest-changing AML rules anywhere, and the UAE’s are no exception. Beady runs the sanctions, PEP, adverse media and ownership checks your KYC and KYB obligations require and keeps the evidence with sources attached. You meet the rules and you can prove it.

Who's Involved in Crypto Compliance in the UAE?

Financial institutions in crypto compliance: an exchange client verified, owners screened, a crypto product counterparty under review, monitored daily
Financial Institutions
Banks and financial institutions that touch crypto, whether by serving exchanges, holding assets or offering crypto products, have the same AML and sanctions duties as any regulated firm, plus the extra risk crypto brings. Under CBUAE supervision, that means careful checks. Beady helps them screen and monitor the crypto businesses and people they work with.
Virtual asset service providers: user onboarding cleared in seconds by API, an institutional counterparty under review, a sanctions match blocked before the first trade
Virtual Asset Service Providers
VASPs, exchanges, wallet providers, custodians and other crypto businesses sit at the centre of crypto compliance. They’re responsible for knowing their users and counterparties. Beady gives them the screening and monitoring to do that, checking the people and companies behind every account and partner. In Dubai that means meeting VARA’s rulebook, and in ADGM and DIFC, the FSRA’s and the DFSA’s.
Compliance officers and investigators: an alert raised on a sanctions match, reviewed in context, evidence attached and escalated to the MLRO with the file
Compliance Officers and Investigators
Compliance officers, MLROs and investigators do the daily work: screening, reviewing alerts and building the evidence behind each decision. Beady is built for them. It cuts false positives, links every finding to its source and pulls cases together, so their time goes on real risk instead of noise.
Regulators and supervisors: rules set, checks run, evidence shown on request, a compliance programme you can show, not just describe
Regulators and Supervisors
Regulators and supervisors such as VARA, the FSRA, the DFSA and the CBUAE set the rules crypto businesses have to follow and check they’re met. They expect firms to screen, monitor and document their decisions. Beady helps firms do exactly that, with the documented, source-linked records regulators look for during an inspection.
Law enforcement agencies: subject identified across aliases, entities behind the subject, connections mapped across jurisdictions, a source-linked file for the case
Law Enforcement Agencies
Law enforcement investigates financial crime in crypto, from fraud to money laundering to sanctions evasion. Beady can support that work with verified searches across sanctions lists, most-wanted lists, criminal records and more than 200M entities and officers, all traceable to the public source.
Technology providers for crypto compliance: 100,000+ sources, 200M+ entities, 95% noise removed, screening and monitoring by API or dashboard
Technology Providers
Technology providers, including screening and risk intelligence platforms like Beady, give crypto businesses the tools to meet their obligations at scale. Instead of checking every user and counterparty by hand, firms rely on providers to automate screening, cut out the noise and keep monitoring running.

What Regulations Affect Crypto and Blockchain Companies in the UAE?

Crypto businesses usually have to deal with requirements in these areas:
Know Your Customer

KYC means checking who your users are and how risky they are before you serve them. Beady covers the risk side of KYC, screening the person behind each account against sanctions, PEP, criminal and adverse media sources, so you know who you’re dealing with from sign-up. Your identity checks, like Emirates ID or passport verification, stay part of your process.

KYC for crypto: identity confirmed, sanctions and PEP checked across every list, one adverse media finding linked to its source
Anti-Money Laundering

AML rules require crypto businesses to spot and stop the movement of illegal money. Screening people and companies against sanctions, watchlists and adverse media is a big part of that, and Beady automates it, catching the high-risk parties AML programmes are meant to keep out.

AML for crypto: people and entities screened against sanctions, PEP, criminal and court sources, counterparty ownership traced, monitored daily after onboarding
Counter-Terrorism Financing

CTF rules require firms to make sure they’re not helping fund terrorism, usually through sanctions and watchlist screening. Beady checks everyone against sanctions, most-wanted and terrorism-related lists, including the UAE Local Terrorist List, all refreshed daily. A flagged party is caught before they get the chance to transact.

Counter-terrorism financing for crypto: designated persons and entities across OFAC, EU, UN and UK HMT, jurisdiction exposure flagged, a match blocked before the first transfer
FATF Travel Rule Requirements

The FATF Travel Rule requires VASPs to pass on sender and recipient details when they transfer crypto, and UAE regulators, VARA included, apply it. It works at the level of the transfer, which makes it different from screening people and companies, but the two go together. Beady handles the sanctions, KYC and KYB screening that supports Travel Rule compliance, so the parties behind a transfer have been properly checked.

FATF Travel Rule: originator screened, counterparty VASP verified with owners mapped, a beneficiary matching a watchlist entry under review
Sanctions Screening

In crypto, sanctions compliance isn’t optional, and the penalties for getting it wrong are severe. Beady screens every user, counterparty and partner against the UAE Local Terrorist List, the UN, OFAC, the EU and the UK’s HMT, all updated daily. A sanctioned party gets caught at screening, not after the damage is done.

Sanctions screening for crypto: all major lists in one pass, owners and controllers included under the 50% rule, a new designation flagged within hours
Data Privacy Laws

Rules such as the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, the DIFC and ADGM data protection rules, and the GDPR where it applies, set out how you handle personal data, including data used for screening. Beady only uses information that’s already public and links every finding to its source. That supports a transparent, defensible way of handling personal data in your compliance checks.

Data privacy laws and crypto screening: public sources only, minimal data retained, an audit trail of who saw what and when
Financial Reporting Obligations

Many crypto businesses have reporting and record-keeping duties, including reporting suspicious activity to the UAE Financial Intelligence Unit through goAML. Your team handles the reporting itself. Beady provides the documented, source-linked evidence behind each screening decision, which is what those reports rely on.

Financial reporting obligations for crypto: suspicious activity flagged, evidence attached with register and case number, a report ready to export for the regulator
Cybersecurity and Risk-Management Standards

Crypto firms are expected to have strong cybersecurity and risk management. Screening and monitoring the people and companies you deal with is part of managing that risk, and Beady adds to it by picking up threats, impersonation and bad actors linked to your platform and partners.

Cybersecurity and risk-management standards for crypto: users and partners screened before access, vendors and integrations checked, continuous monitoring

A wallet address never tells you who's behind it

Users, founders and counterparties checked, with evidence a regulator will accept.
01 User Onboarding and KYC
Screen every user as they sign up. Beady checks the person behind an account against sanctions, PEP, criminal and adverse media sources in minutes. Legitimate users get approved quickly, and sanctioned or high-risk people are stopped before they ever fund an account.
02 Business and Counterparty Onboarding
Onboarding an exchange, VASP or institutional partner means knowing the company and who owns it. Beady runs KYB on the business, maps its ownership and screens it for sanctions, litigation and adverse media. You’ll know exactly who’s on the other side before you connect.
03 Token and Project Due Diligence
Before you list a token, integrate a protocol or back a project, check the people behind it. Beady screens founders, teams and companies for sanctions, fraud and adverse media, so a project with a dodgy team doesn’t put your platform or users at risk.
04 Ongoing User and Counterparty Monitoring
A user’s or partner’s risk changes after onboarding. Beady checks everyone on your platform daily and flags a new sanction, charge or scandal when it happens. That’s your chance to act before an approved account turns into a real problem.
05 Institutional and OTC Counterparties
The bigger the trade, the deeper the checks need to go. Beady screens institutional and OTC counterparties, and the people behind them, for sanctions, ownership and adverse media risk. A high-value relationship starts with a clear view of who’s on the other side, and stays that way.
06 Partner, Vendor and Market-Maker Screening
Your risk extends to everyone you integrate with. Beady screens partners, vendors and market makers, and the people behind them, for sanctions and reputational issues. Someone else’s problem doesn’t quietly become your platform’s problem.
07 Investigations and Escalations
When something looks wrong, you need answers fast. Beady gives your compliance team a source-linked view of any user, company or project, drawn from sanctions, criminal, litigation and adverse media sources. Alerts and escalations can be looked into quickly and handled with confidence.

What Beady Checks

People

Risk doesn’t sit with a wallet, an account or a project. It sits with the people behind them, and those are the people Beady screens: your users, founders and executives, beneficial owners who’d rather stay out of view, and everyone connected to them. Each name is checked against sanctions, PEP, criminal and most-wanted lists, plus adverse media from more than 100,000 sources, and anyone whose political exposure raises the risk is flagged. Pseudonyms are normal in this space, and a handle or a shell company name won’t tell you much. Beady gets down to the real person and the real record, so you know who you’ve let onto your platform.

What Beady checks in crypto, people: users and account holders, founders and project teams, beneficial owners, directors, investors and backers, PEPs
Organisations

The companies behind crypto are often the hardest to see through. Beady screens exchanges, VASPs, token issuers, counterparties and the companies around them against sanctions, litigation, adverse media and watchlists. It looks especially closely at shell companies and opaque offshore structures, which are common in crypto and often used to hide who controls a business or to move money quietly. By looking at the whole group and not just the company in front of you, Beady helps you judge whether the business behind a partnership or listing is as clean as it looks.

What Beady checks in crypto, organizations: exchanges and VASPs, token issuers and projects, counterparties, payment and banking partners, shell entities
Ownership and Connections

In crypto, ownership is often hidden deliberately, and it’s exactly what you need to see. Beady maps beneficial ownership and the connections around a company or project using a database of more than 200M entities and officers, working through holding companies and intermediaries to the people who really own and control it. Along the way it picks up related parties, conflicts and links to other people or companies you’d want to know about. You end up knowing who’s behind it and who else they’re tied to.

Set Once. Monitor Daily

For a crypto business, this isn’t optional. A thorough check at onboarding, then daily monitoring for every user, counterparty and project.

One-Time Screening

At onboarding, Beady runs a full check on a user, company or project in one go: sanctions, PEP, criminal records, ownership and adverse media. No documents needed. You can approve a legitimate party quickly, or flag a risky one before they ever transact.

One-time scan of a name across news, profiles, legal bases and additional sources

Ongoing Monitoring

Once someone’s on your platform, the first check turns into ongoing coverage. Beady rescreens every user, counterparty and project daily, so a new sanction, charge or scandal reaches you within hours rather than at your next review. You screen once at onboarding, and everyone stays under watch from then on.

Ongoing Monitoring

Clear Intelligence, Built for Your Workflow

Every finding traced to its source, reports ready for audit, and results sent to the tools your team already uses.
Social Signals Monitoring
Beady also follows public social media in real time, and in crypto that matters more than almost anywhere. A rug pull accusation, an arrest or a project falling apart often shows up on social and community channels hours or days before the news.

How early varies, but it covers everyone you screen. You’ll hear about it as early as anyone can.
Social Signals Monitoring
Messenger Integration for Daily Risk Alerts
Crypto runs on messaging apps, and so does Beady. It can send daily alerts to Telegram and similar apps with the biggest changes across your users, counterparties and projects. No need to log in.

Quality of the Data Provided

Frequently Asked Questions

What is blockchain and crypto compliance software?
It’s software that helps crypto businesses meet their AML, KYC, KYB and sanctions obligations. It usually screens users, counterparties and partners against risk data, monitors them over time and records decisions. Beady focuses on the people-and-companies side: who’s behind each wallet, project and counterparty, and what’s changed since you last looked.
Because getting it wrong hurts. Let a sanctioned or fraudulent party in and you could be breaking the law without knowing it. Funds can be frozen. Your bank can drop you. You can lose your VARA, FSRA or DFSA licence. And a reputation built on trust takes a hit too. Good compliance stops all of that. It protects the business and your users and keeps you operating, which matters more every year as UAE regulators tighten the rules.
Crypto businesses usually have to deal with KYC, AML and counter-terrorist financing rules, sanctions, the FATF Travel Rule, data protection laws such as the UAE Personal Data Protection Law and the GDPR, reporting duties and cybersecurity standards. The exact mix depends on where you’re licensed, whether that’s VARA in Dubai, the FSRA in ADGM, the DFSA in DIFC or federal rules elsewhere, and on what you do. Beady supports the screening and monitoring side: KYC, KYB, sanctions, PEP and adverse media, which runs through most of these requirements.
It replaces slow, manual, one-off checks with fast, thorough screening that keeps going. Beady checks the people and companies you deal with against sanctions, criminal and adverse media sources in minutes, removes the noise and keeps monitoring them. High-risk parties get caught early, at onboarding and every day after.
Beady handles the screening at the heart of crypto AML work: KYC checks on individuals and KYB checks on companies, run against sanctions, PEP, adverse media and ownership data in minutes. Every finding links to its source, and everyone stays monitored after onboarding. You meet your obligations and have the evidence to show it.
Yes. Before you list a token, integrate a protocol or partner with a project, Beady screens the founders, teams and companies behind it against sanctions, fraud, criminal and adverse media sources, and maps their ownership and connections. You find out whether the people behind a slick project carry hidden risk.
Fast. Most checks come back in minutes, even the heavier ones. Beady does it all in one automated run: it searches every source, works out the ownership, filters the noise and puts everything into one profile. You can screen a user at sign-up without slowing them down, and look into a company or project far quicker than by hand.
No, and that’s on purpose. Beady covers the off-chain side of crypto compliance: the people and companies behind wallets, accounts, projects and counterparties. It works next to your on-chain analytics tools rather than replacing them, and gives you the people-and-company picture that transaction analysis alone can’t.
